Hello!
I am Miss Dunlop, the lucky teacher of Year 1 and we are also supported by Mrs Harrison who works
closely with groups of children.
If you would like to explore our curriculum in Year 1 further and find out about what we are learning
then please click on the link to our Year 1 Long Term Plan!
PE is currently taking place on a Tuesday afternoon. It is really important your child’s PE kit is
available in school so that they can take part safely and comfortably.
At Holy Cross we are very passionate about fostering a love of reading in all children. Your child will
bring home a new reading book in their pack each Friday. This book has been carefully selected to
match the current reading level of your child. We highly recommend that you read this book each
night with your child to develop fluency, understanding and confidence. Please record this in your
yellow reading journal so we can keep a record of your child’s reading journey! Please return the
reading pack to school by the following Thursday in order for this to be changed.
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or need assistance with anything related to your child's
learning or well-being, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Miss Dunlop
Reading
In Y1, all children are expected to read for their RWI book for at least 10 minutes each day.
We would also encourage parents/carers to ask the children the comprehension questions which can be found at the back of each book.
We will collect book bags in each Thursday so that we can make sure that books are changed and sent home again, each Friday.
Maths
In Y1, all children are expected to complete at least 5 minutes of Numbots each day.
In Y1, reading records should be completed daily by parents/carers.
