Our Year 3 Class
My name is Miss Hynes and I am the Year 3 teacher whilst Mrs McDermott is on maternity leave. We are very lucky to be supported by Ms Shields, who also works closely with groups of children, and Ms Hughes who supports children during the afternoon.

PE: Y3 will be doing PE on a Thursday afternoon.
At Holy Cross, we are incredibly passionate about fostering a love of reading in all children. We also know how difficult it can be to choose reading books for your child, which is why we have created ‘recommended reads’ for each year group. Click on the button below for more information.

Reading
- In Y3, all children are expected to read for their levelled book for at least 10 minutes each day.
- We will collect book bags in each Thursday so that we can make sure that books are changed and sent home again, each Friday.
- In Y3, children also have access to Read Theory, which is an online reading platform.
Maths
- In Y3, all children are expected to complete at least 10 minutes of Timestable Rock Stars each day. By the end of Y3, all children should be fluent in the 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s and 10s, including division facts.
Spelling
- Each Friday, we will send home 6 spellings for your child to practise. The following Friday, there will be a spelling test focusing on the words that have been sent home.
As you know, reading is a huge focus in our school and it can have a fantastic impact on children’s learning across the different curriculum areas.
In Y3, reading records should be completed daily by parents/carers.
